  • Why Dark Fiction?

In general, people who enjoy dark-themed books are deemed less than in society, weirdos/crazy, etc., especially if you read `Dark Romance, ' which is demonised all over Booktok / Bookstagram. Midnight Book Club is all about unapologetically exploring the darkness that we enjoy. With this book club, I will empower you all so you can push your boundaries without judgement and know you have a community you can have the all-important debrief book discussions with. If you are anything like me and have a traumatic past, you probably enjoy reading Dark Fiction because you feel seen and can take control of situations you weren't able to in real life, even if it's just by closing the book or turning the audiobook off. Personally, reading Dark Fiction has helped me more to improve and not overcome my past because I honestly don’t think that will ever happen, but learn to live with and cope with it far better. Although I read many books across all genres, by far my favourites are those with dark themes, so I thought that if I'm going to start a book club, it should focus on books I am passionate about.  Happy Reading, Kaleigh ;-)

  • Why focus primarily on Indie Authors?

I guess my passion for supporting Indie Authors started back in college when I did English Literature. It took me back through the history of books, long before publishers, editors, the internet/social media, mobile phones, and the vast amount of money in the publishing industry today. Books are what they are today because of their vast history, and the majority of that history saw authors and writers supported by word of mouth. The power of word of mouth has not been lost; it's just no longer at the forefront. Although arguably, you can say word-of-mouth reviews are the foundation of the publishing industry today.  After joining TikTok in 2024, my love of Indie Authors grew dramatically. Largely after seeing the way Indie Authors are treated by the publishing industry but also Booktokers / Bookstagrammers, you know the people that claim to love books but don't think about what goes into producing them. Ever since I have done whatever I can to support Indie Authors for free. I am a big believer that the best stories are the ones you haven't read yet, the diamonds in the rough that no one has read yet. They are hiding amongst the Indie Authors that many people still try to avoid.  In this book club, I will be shining a light on Indie Authors, not only to help support them in getting their stories out there, but also to show everyone the stories they are missing out on.  Happy Reading, Kaleigh ;-)
