Why focus primarily on Indie Authors?

I guess my passion for supporting Indie Authors started back in college when I did English Literature. It took me back through the history of books, long before publishers, editors, the internet/social media, mobile phones, and the vast amount of money in the publishing industry today. Books are what they are today because of their vast history, and the majority of that history saw authors and writers supported by word of mouth. The power of word of mouth has not been lost; it's just no longer at the forefront. Although arguably, you can say word-of-mouth reviews are the foundation of the publishing industry today.
After joining TikTok in 2024, my love of Indie Authors grew dramatically. Largely after seeing the way Indie Authors are treated by the publishing industry but also Booktokers / Bookstagrammers, you know the people that claim to love books but don't think about what goes into producing them. Ever since I have done whatever I can to support Indie Authors for free.
I am a big believer that the best stories are the ones you haven't read yet, the diamonds in the rough that no one has read yet. They are hiding amongst the Indie Authors that many people still try to avoid.
In this book club, I will be shining a light on Indie Authors, not only to help support them in getting their stories out there, but also to show everyone the stories they are missing out on.
Happy Reading,
Kaleigh
